A special feature from the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services of the City of San Jose

It was a storm of epic proportions as a bomb cyclone swept through the Bay Area, causing power outages, fallen trees, mudslides, closed highways, and flash floods.

Due to this emergency, our Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Seven Trees Community Center opened their doors to community members impacted by the storm on January 4. Assisted by the American Red Cross, the center has been open 24 / 7 since that day and will continue to do so through January 16.

Additional evacuation centers opened during the storm, including Camden. Both community center staff had to adjust their schedules quickly to ensure their fellow residents were safe and felt welcome.

By ensuring residents' safety and well-being, #EssentialWorkers provided heated rooms, snacks, bottled water, restrooms, outlets, and Wi-Fi among other amenities.

The #PRNSBest community center staff were quick to mobilize in the face of the evolving winter storms to ensure our residents were comforted and safe.

To stay dry, there are an additional community center, library, and warming locations nearby.

ActivateSJ is the City of San Jose's Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) plan to maintain, improve, and expand facilities, programs, and services. As part of the plan, we will be developing a diverse park system and a range of recreation programs and services for everyone in the city.

With the help of parks, recreation, and neighborhood services, Activate SJ seeks to connect people for an active San Jose. ActivateJ.org has more information on our department's plan and vision moving forward.
